There are several options available today for getting an item custom framed. The big box stores, the automated online stores and local "mom and pop" brick and mortar frame shops. I'll list the issues associated with choosing the first two over the latter like FauxClaimed 2 Vintage.
Big Box Stores
First we are a local "Mom and Pop" brick and mortar store servicing Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach.
Those big box stores sell everything from sewing supplies to art supplies, to cake decorating, to silk florals, to scrapbooking and a vast array of other crafting supplies. They are great, but custom picture framing is just a small segment of their business and certainly isn't the "bread and butter" part of their business. Additionally, you'll generally be helped by "framers" who aren't well trained or as experienced as the 35 years that Michele at FauxClaimed 2 Vintage has to offer. Here is their little secret...our prices for an apple to apple comparison are typically lower than their "coupon" price. You don't need to coupon shop at the big box store for savings, just come get our everyday better value pricing. Online Automated Stores/Services
These are typically easy to find using a web search. They will offer low prices using low-quality materials. You must ship your art to them, then you design online where the computer monitor will not display the mat or frame colors correctly and they frame it using acrylic instead of glass and ship it to you. Problem is, if you aren't careful you can easily scratch or otherwise abrade and cloud the acrylic when cleaning. SO, to summarize, you'll get little to no design help, can't frame art that is dimensional or otherwise not a standard flat square or rectangle. You'll get acrylic instead of glass. You ship your art to them and if it gets lost or damage in either direction you'll have the aggravation of trying to sort that out with the shipper and provider. Lastly, remember that frame and mat color rendering issue I mentioned earlier? Well, what happens when your framed piece is delivered and the colors you loved on your computer screen now look very different on your framed piece and in your home. At the very best, you'll have to return ship it and hope that your new changes will look right. Yuck, this could be problematic if you're someone like me that minute changes in color is a big deal. Pricing, in most cases we don't offer the low-quality materials they offer so getting an apple to apples price comparison is difficult, but we will be able to work with you and your budget to arrive at a competitive price while using better materials and we eliminate all that shipping back and forth and more importantly we are local and guaranty our work and your satisfaction. Plus, another HUGE advantage to using us is you can always take mat and frame sample home...the actual samples not a picture...so you can check to make sure the look and colors work with your furniture, wall coverings, and flooring.
